I came home feeling a little depressed. Did I really have a good set together? Was it really the work I wanted to show?
March 21, 2016 #047 Beacon NY - One of four photographs that will be in the show.
It's been an interesting ride for the last couple of days. I have been getting ready for the Archipelago group show at Theo Ganz Studio. I have spun through a range of emotions while I was assembling photographs from the last three months, paring them down for the spring book of DWMY and then pairing those down to a selection of four images for the show.
I finalized the selection in time to print them and take them to the CPW Salon last night. I was hoping they might help me select down, which turned out not to be necessary because the printing process winnowed them down to five and it was clear which four should go in the show. Perhaps they can make me feel more secure about my selections instead, I thought to myself. They kind of did. They thought they were all good and one was exceptional. Ok. I guess I will take that.
I came home feeling a little depressed. Did I really have a good set together? Was it really the work I wanted to show? My friend Steve from Salon emailed me this morning to wish me luck and tell me he thought the selection was strong. As I matted and framed them I began to feel better about things. Something about a frame and eight ply museum matt takes things to another level. I liked the way they framed and presented together.
When I got to the gallery a number of other artists were dropping off as well. It was fun to see the work that will be in the show. It is a good group and I am excited to be in it. The gallery owner was really pleased with my selection for the show.
All right then, I feel better about things now. On to the next challenge!
The show opens this Saturday. Artist reception is from 3pm to 5pm. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by. There will be lots of good work to see.
